In the example above we are selecting two different ranges. Ranges essentially constitute a table within excel.

Looking at the example above we see that first column is a column A. However, if we select a range B3:D10, then our first column is B. This is an important concept for lookup functions within excel. Referencing for columns and rows will change depending on the size of the table.
